If you took a train to Shimo-Kitazawa and walked past the downtown to the surrounding neighborhood, you’d end up at this small little house that specializes in Totoro cream puffs.
When I went to Tokyo, my friends wanted to go to Shimo-Kitazawa for its fashion and because it was the setting for one of their favorite animes, but I wanted to see this cream puff for a while.
This is Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory, which looks more like a wooden tree house than a cafe. Actually, it looks out of place compared to the other houses on this neighborhood.
When you go inside, there’s a lot of memorabilia to My Neighbor Totoro, but there’s a lot of Totoro shaped cream puffs. By the time I got there, I grabbed this mango one, which has a little hat on it.
Compared to other cream puffs, it’s super light, and not too sweet.
If you’re willing to make a trip out of this, take a detour off the main city and come here.
