The biggest Japanese Sandos I’ve ever had.

When I had Japanese sandos while I was in Tokyo, I experienced something clean, soft, and perfectly portioned. A decently filling lunch for $2? Sign me up.

But, Taku Sando, that’s a different level. Located in Brooklyn, Taku Sando is a Japanese sandwich shop that specializes in a small menu of sandos. Somehow, they’ve managed to turn one of Japan’s comfort convenience foods into something absolutely massive.

Once you walk into the restaurant, you immediately notice that half the restaurant is dedicated to bread. Taku Sando makes their own shokupan, the fluffy milk bread. It’s soft yet structured enough to hold the fillings.

What We Ordered

If you check the menu right now, they serve six sandos. Out of those six, we ordered: the chicken katsu sando and the egg sando. Separate from the main menu is a dessert sando, so at the time, we ordered their matcha fruit sando.

The Egg Sando

Let’s start with the egg sando. Japanese egg sandos are usually simple: chopped eggs, savory mayo, and seasoning. Taku Sando essentially takes this idea and adds more and more eggs. This is a fairly thick sandwich, but it’s still rich, creamy, and somehow still a light sandwich thanks to the bread.

The Chicken Katsu Sando

By the way, no hate on anyone who prefers a Pork Katsu Sando, my stomach and pork don’t go too well together. So, in this sandwich, there are two large chicken katsu and cabbage slaw. It’s a heavy sandwich, and significantly larger than the versions that I had in Japan.

The Fruit Sando

For dessert, I ordered the matcha fruit sando, so this is was a lightly whipped matcha cream with strawberries as the fruit. It’s not too sweet, and during the summer, it was strawberry season, so it was overall a great sando. I preferred the original fruit sandos with oranges and kiwis, but this was a solid one as well.

Final Thoughts

If you want giant, satisfying Japanese sandos, Taku Sando is the place. And, they also have a bidet.
