Eating pasta as an east weeknight dinner makes sense: it’s one pot, should only take 30 minutes max, and if you’re making a classic tomato pasta, tomato jars are cheap. However, the store-bought tomato jars aren’t the best quality, but the you don’t have to settle with this. If you use simple ingredients like ground beef, fish sauce, or cream cheese, you can upgrade your tomato jar. Yes, fish sauce.

This methodology is from Dan Pashman’s Anything’s Pastable.

Why Upgrade a Tomato Jar?

  • Added Texture: Add ground beef or any protein of your choice to make it more heartier and add texture.
  • Boosted Flavor: Fish sauce can bring a savory, umami taste. It will not taste like fish.
  • Creaminess Factor: Parmesan and cream cheese balance the acidity, so you get a more creamy finish.
